Cartonnage Box Workshop

The box is about 6″ x 4.5″ x 2″.

Items to bring to the workshop:

  • Small Cartonnage Box (DIY kit 102)
  • 2 fat quarters
  • Small charm or tassel or ribbon to open the box (optional)
  • Small Rotary cutter
  • Cutting mat
  • Scissors
  • Ruler (12.5″ square is good)
  • Pencil
  • Large old heavy book to use as a weight (for example, 8 1/2" x 11" x  1" thick )

The two fat quarters will be used to cover the inside and outside of the box. The fabric should be 100% cotton. A print or fabric  with a pattern is best. Batiks are fine.  We want your first box to look great so pick a fabric that is easy to work with. Don’t choose a directional fabric or a pattern that needs to be fussy cut or aligned (like stripes).  Don’t use solid colors (like Kona) because they may show glue spots. Don’t pick a really light, thin fabric that you can see through. You can experiment with these types of fabrics on your next box.

You can optionally attach a ribbon or small charm or tassel to the lid to open the box. The charm or tassel should be on a flat, thin cord or ribbon that is at least 6″ long so it can be attached to the lid of the box. The box is only 2 1/4″ tall so make sure your charm or tassel is the appropriate size.
